My Thoughts on Amnesia Guide Of A Mermaid
"Amnesia Guide Of A Mermaid" promised a lighthearted fantasy romp, and for the most part, it delivered. I went in expecting fluff and laughs, and while I got that, I was surprised by the unexpected plot twists that cropped up along the way. It's a story that's easy to get sucked into, with a charming dynamic between the main characters.
First Impressions
The beginning of this novel is definitely its strongest point. I immediately fell for the premise: a mermaid with amnesia and a wealthy, seemingly indifferent CEO. The humor is on point, and the setup is genuinely intriguing. I appreciated how the author switched between the MC and ML's perspectives, giving me insight into their individual thoughts and motivations.
What Works Well
The relationship between the MC and ML is a definite highlight. Their communication is surprisingly good, which is a refreshing change of pace in this genre. I also enjoyed the author's take on the mermaid mythology. The idea of mermaids casually forgetting things unless a relationship is "official" is a hilarious and unique concept. Plus, the addition of Mpreg added an extra layer of cuteness to the story.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the overall story, I did find some aspects lacking. The plot takes a bit of a turn in the middle, delving into more cliché territory with switched babies and rich family drama. While these elements had their moments, they felt somewhat disconnected from the initial charm of the mermaid storyline. I was hoping the ending would tie everything together neatly, but it felt a little rushed and left me with some unanswered questions.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Okay, let's talk about the ending. While I liked the resolution between the main couple, I couldn't help but feel like some plot threads were left dangling. What about Grandpa Zhuang's reaction to the baby? Did the little mermaid ever learn to change his tail into legs? And what was the public's reaction to the MC and ML's relationship reveal? These loose ends left me wanting more.
Final Verdict
Despite its flaws, "Amnesia Guide Of A Mermaid" is still an enjoyable read. It's a lighthearted and entertaining story with a charming couple and a unique premise. While the middle section might feel a bit generic and the ending could be more satisfying, the overall experience is positive. If you're looking for a fun and fluffy fantasy novel with a bit of unexpected plot, this one might just be for you. I'd give it a solid 3.75 out of 5 stars.
