My Thoughts on After The Abyss Dragon Woke Up
"After the Abyss Dragon Woke Up" is a wild ride, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a comedic fantasy with action, adventure, and a dash of romance that kept me hooked from beginning to end. It's a story about a dragon who wakes up in a human body and has to find a way to get his strength and treasure back. What unfolds is a hilarious journey filled with unexpected alliances, enemies, and a love story that's as chaotic as it is sweet.
First Impressions
The premise immediately grabbed me. A lazy, overpowered dragon waking up in a weak human body? Sign me up! The initial chapters are filled with humorous situations as Shi An, the dragon, navigates the human world, trying to regain his power and retrieve his stolen treasures. The contrast between his true nature and his human disguise is played for laughs, and it works incredibly well.
What Works Well
The characters are the heart of this story. Shi An is a fantastic protagonist – a dragon through and through. He's selfish, greedy, and doesn't care much about humans, but he's also surprisingly naive and innocent in some ways. His interactions with Mu Heng, the cold dragon slayer, are gold. Their relationship is a slow burn that evolves from animosity to mutual obsession.
I also appreciated the world-building. The magic system is interesting, and the lore surrounding the Abyss and the dragons adds depth to the story. The side characters, especially the demon minions, are a delight and provide plenty of comedic relief. The plot moves at a great pace, keeping me engaged without feeling rushed. The author balances humor, action, and romance perfectly, creating a truly enjoyable reading experience.
Areas of Concern
While I loved the story overall, I did have a couple of minor issues. The main plot about who summoned Shi An from the Abyss felt a bit predictable. Also, some readers may take issue with the ML's behavior. While I didn't mind it, others may find Mu Heng's possessiveness towards Shi An to be a bit much.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers may take issue with the ML's behavior. There are some scenes that portray the ML as taking advantage of the MC, which can be uncomfortable for some readers.
Final Verdict
Despite a few minor flaws, "After the Abyss Dragon Woke Up" is a fantastic read. It's a hilarious, action-packed, and heartwarming story with memorable characters and a unique premise. If you're looking for a fun and engaging fantasy novel with a strong romantic subplot, I highly recommend giving this one a try. I'm giving it a solid 4.5 out of 5 stars.
