My Thoughts on Very Happy
"Very Happy" is a completed web novel that I just finished reading and I'm ready to share my thoughts. This story blends comedy, drama, psychological elements, romance, and slice-of-life into a yaoi narrative. It's quite a mix, and while it generally delivers a feel-good experience, it definitely has some quirks that I want to dive into.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the overwhelmingly positive sentiment surrounding the novel. Many readers praised the heartwarming nature of the story and the adorable dynamic between the main characters. The synopsis and tags promised a journey filled with fluff, face-slapping, and a caring protagonist paired with a clingy lover. Overall, it felt like a good premise.
What Works Well
The charm of "Very Happy" lies in its ability to create endearing characters. I found myself genuinely invested in the MC, Li Zhao, and his journey. His positive outlook on life, despite a difficult past, is infectious. The ML, Yan Ting, is also compelling, and I liked how the author explored his mental health struggles and the gradual healing he experiences through his relationship with Li Zhao. I felt that their friendship turning into love was heartwarming. The side characters also add to the overall enjoyment.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed much of the novel, I do have some reservations. I felt some plot points felt dropped or unresolved, and certain aspects of the story felt rushed or overly convenient. I also have to agree with some readers that pointed out how mental illness was handled in the novel.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some reviews mentioned that the ML's mental health recovery felt too swift and simplified, attributing it solely to the power of love. While the romance is sweet, mental health is more complex. Also, some readers have pointed out the unaddressed loose ends, such as the ML's death in the alternate reality.
Final Verdict
Overall, "Very Happy" is an enjoyable read if you're looking for a feel-good story with likeable characters and a focus on positive relationships. However, it's important to be aware of its shortcomings in plot consistency and handling of serious topics. If you can overlook these flaws and embrace the fluff, you'll likely find yourself charmed by this heartwarming tale. I give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
