My Thoughts on Primitive Once Again

"Primitive Once Again" promised a unique blend of genres, and after diving in, I found a story that was indeed full of surprises. While it wasn't without its shortcomings, the overall experience was surprisingly enjoyable, offering a heartwarming journey through a primitive world.

First Impressions

The premise is undeniably intriguing: reincarnation, beastkin, childcare, and a slow-burn romance all rolled into one. I went in expecting a fluffy, lighthearted read, and while there were certainly plenty of sweet moments, I was pleased to find a more substantial narrative with genuine emotional depth. The initial setup, with the MC and ML being raised by two somewhat clueless but loving beastkin fathers, hooked me right away.

What Works Well

What stood out most was the strong emphasis on family and community. The author does a fantastic job of portraying the bonds between characters, showcasing their growth and resilience as they face the challenges of their harsh environment. I particularly appreciated how the narrative didn't solely focus on the MC and ML, but also gave ample screen time to the side characters, making the world feel richer and more alive. The world-building itself is another strong point, creating a believable and engaging setting for the story to unfold.

Areas of Concern

While I enjoyed the overall story, I felt the romance between the MC and ML could have been more developed. Given the "shounen ai" tag, I was hoping for a bit more focus on their relationship. The plot also left a few questions unanswered, leaving me wanting more details about certain aspects of the world and the characters' past lives.

⚠️ Spoiler Warning

Some readers may find details about the MC and ML's origins, or the nature of their relationship with their fathers to be spoilers. Additionally, some plot points related to character fates and world events could be considered spoilers. Proceed with caution if you prefer to experience the story with no prior knowledge.

Final Verdict

Despite some minor shortcomings, "Primitive Once Again" is a worthwhile read for those looking for a heartwarming story with a unique premise. The strong focus on family, engaging world-building, and emotional depth make it a standout in the genre. While the romance may be a bit understated for some, the overall journey is one filled with love, loss, and the enduring power of community. I'd recommend giving it a try, especially if you're looking for something a bit different from the typical reincarnation tale.

Synopsis

This is the story of a Kantas couple’s successful efforts to lay (steal) eggs: “… You stole it?” Black’s expression tensed as he cautiously lowered his body, using his wings to conceal the nest more tightly. “I didn’t steal–” Listening to Black’s question, White’s expression became prouder. He stuffed the large white egg beneath his bu*t as he replied excitedly, “I laid it!” Boom– Black seemed to have heard the sound of a string known as rationality snapping in his head. He finally knew what was more infuriating than a husband leaving home for half a year only to come back with a wife three months pregnant. Which was– A wife leaving home for a few days to find out that his husband had laid an egg! The story’s protagonist → Meng Jiuzhao (crying) : I am that egg.
