My Thoughts on Innocence
"Innocence" certainly lives up to its name, but not in the way you might initially think! It's a charmingly naughty story that blends fluffy romance with some seriously steamy scenes. I found myself thoroughly entertained by the dynamic between the two leads and the way their relationship unfolds.
First Impressions
From the very beginning, I was hooked by the childhood friends turned lovers trope. It's a classic for a reason, and "Innocence" puts a unique spin on it. The initial premise of their innocent interactions gradually evolving into something much more intimate is both hilarious and heartwarming. I appreciated the author's ability to balance the sweetness with the spice, creating a reading experience that felt both satisfying and a little bit sinful.
What Works Well
The characters are definitely the highlight here. The male lead is a master of playful teasing, subtly guiding the female lead towards a deeper understanding of her own feelings and desires. His "sneaky" tactics, as some readers described them, are all in good fun and add a layer of comedic charm to their interactions. The female lead's naivete, while sometimes frustrating, is also incredibly endearing. Watching her slowly realize her feelings for the male lead is a delightful journey. I also really appreciated that the story emphasizes consent, making the more mature scenes feel both exciting and comfortable to read. The plot, while still developing, is surprisingly well-thought-out, and I found myself genuinely invested in the characters' growth and the future of their relationship.
Areas of Concern
My biggest concern is the lack of updates. The story is currently unfinished and hasn't been updated since 2020, leaving things on a major cliffhanger. That said, there's hope that the author will return to the project soon.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Okay, here's where I'll touch on some spoilers. Readers who have gotten further into the story have shared a flashback of the two main characters as children, where the male lead goes to great lengths to get the female lead honey after she was scolded by her mom. It really highlights his caring personality and makes their eventual romance all the more believable.
Final Verdict
Despite the lack of updates and the frustrating cliffhanger, I highly recommend "Innocence" to anyone looking for a fluffy, funny, and undeniably hot read. The characters are engaging, the plot is intriguing, and the smut is top-notch. If you're a fan of the childhood friends to lovers trope and don't mind a story that's currently on hiatus, then definitely give this one a try. Just be prepared to crave more!
