My Thoughts on Falling in Love Inside an Urban Legend
"Falling in Love Inside an Urban Legend" is definitely a unique reading experience, and not always in the ways I expected. The blend of horror, romance, and the supernatural, with a heavy dose of yaoi, creates a wild ride that I simultaneously enjoyed and found myself questioning. This novel isn't for the faint of heart, or for those who need their protagonists to be paragons of virtue.
First Impressions
Going in, I knew I was stepping into something a little twisted. The tags alone – "male yandere," "gore," and "emotionally weak protagonist" – painted a clear picture. What surprised me, though, was how quickly I became invested in the strange dynamic between the MC and ML. The episodic format, with each arc exploring a different urban legend, kept things fresh, even when the core themes remained consistent.
What Works Well
The biggest draw for me was the MC. He's far from perfect, exhibiting selfishness, cowardice, and a healthy dose of self-preservation. And honestly? I found it refreshing. In a genre often filled with flawless heroes, the MC's flaws made him feel surprisingly real. He's not trying to save the world; he's just trying to survive, and that relatability, despite his questionable choices, kept me engaged. The ML, on the other hand, is a full-blown yandere, possessive and obsessive, willing to do anything to protect (or perhaps control) the MC. The contrast between their personalities, and the slow burn of their twisted romance, is undeniably compelling. The horror elements are also well-done, creating a genuinely creepy atmosphere in several arcs.
Areas of Concern
While I appreciated the MC's flawed nature, I can see why some readers might find him unlikeable. His actions in certain arcs definitely pushed the boundaries of my own tolerance. Additionally, the ending felt a bit abrupt, leaving me wanting more resolution for the characters.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some arcs contain sensitive content, and it's worth noting that the ML's obsessive behavior often leads to violence and death.
Final Verdict
"Falling in Love Inside an Urban Legend" is a dark and twisted romance that won't appeal to everyone. However, if you're looking for a unique reading experience with flawed characters, a possessive love interest, and a healthy dose of horror, this might be right up your alley. Just be prepared to question your own moral compass along the way. I'm giving it a solid 4 out of 5 stars for its originality and ability to keep me hooked, despite its flaws.
