My Thoughts on Who Says Online Dating Never Ends Well?
This novel promised a fluffy, quick read, and for the most part, it delivered. As someone who enjoys a lighthearted danmei, I decided to give Who Says Online Dating Never Ends Well? a shot, and I found myself charmed by its simplicity, though not entirely without reservations.
First Impressions
The premise is classic: misunderstandings, revenge plots that backfire spectacularly, and a dash of online catfishing. Our MC, fueled by perceived slights from the ML, decides to enact his revenge by pretending to be a girl online and seducing him. Predictably, things don't go according to plan. It's a setup ripe for comedic moments and heartwarming confessions.
What Works Well
I especially loved the dynamic between the MC and ML. The author really shines in portraying the MC's internal struggle as he falls for the ML despite his initial intentions. The story does a good job of showing us how the MC genuinely develops feelings, which makes the romance feel earned, even within the short timeframe. The ML is also quite endearing, and his caring nature shines through, making it easy to root for their relationship. It's easy to become invested in this couple, and there's an undeniable adorableness to their interactions.
Areas of Concern
While the novel is enjoyable, its brevity is also its downfall. The plot moves at a rapid pace, and the character development, while present, feels somewhat rushed. I found myself wishing for a bit more depth and exploration of their relationship after the initial conflict resolves. I also felt that the MC's "revenge" plot was a bit thin, and the initial misunderstandings could have been fleshed out more to create a more compelling foundation for the story.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Okay, I'm going to dance around this carefully. Knowing that the MC is essentially tricking the ML from the start might make some readers uncomfortable. However, the ML's reaction to the reveal and the subsequent development of their relationship is handled well enough that it didn't bother me too much.
Final Verdict
Who Says Online Dating Never Ends Well? is a charming, if somewhat lightweight, danmei that's perfect for a quick and fluffy read. If you're looking for a deep and complex story, this might not be for you. However, if you're in the mood for something sweet, adorable, and relatively drama-free, I'd recommend giving it a try. I'd rate it a solid 4 out of 5 stars. It's a delightful little treat that left me with a smile, even if I wished there was just a little more to savor.
