My Thoughts on Ultimate Scheming System
"Ultimate Scheming System" is a wild ride, to say the least. This novel isn't for the faint of heart, but if you're looking for a protagonist who's more chaotic than good, it might just scratch that itch.
First Impressions
Initially, I was hooked. The premise is simple: a reincarnated soul gets a system that rewards him for "acting tough." This translates to a lot of face-slapping, arrogant posturing, and general mayhem. The early chapters had me laughing out loud, and I was genuinely invested in seeing how far our shameless MC would go.
What Works Well
The comedy is definitely the strongest aspect. Xu Que, our protagonist, is a master of trolling, and his antics are often hilarious. He's not afraid to break the fourth wall, use modern-day items in a cultivation world, or generally act like a complete buffoon to get ahead. The system itself is also a fun mechanic, constantly giving him new ways to scheme and power up. I also appreciated the fast-paced cultivation and the "wish fulfillment" aspect. It's satisfying to see the MC overcome challenges with a combination of cunning and overwhelming power.
Areas of Concern
However, my enjoyment waned as the story progressed. The "acting tough" gimmick, while funny at first, becomes repetitive and predictable. The plot often feels like a series of loosely connected events, with little overall direction. The power scaling can be inconsistent, and the MC's reliance on his system sometimes makes him feel less like a clever strategist and more like a lucky gambler.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers have also raised concerns about certain plot elements, particularly the "Earth arc" and the handling of female characters. The Earth arc has been criticized for its racist undertones, and many feel that the female characters are underdeveloped and often relegated to the role of damsels in distress. The initial motivation of the MC to revive a girl he spent a few days with also falls flat and is not explored well.
Final Verdict
"Ultimate Scheming System" is a flawed but ultimately entertaining novel. If you're looking for a serious xianxia with deep world-building and complex characters, this isn't it. However, if you're in the mood for a lighthearted, over-the-top comedy with a shameless protagonist, you might just find yourself enjoying the ride. Just be prepared for some questionable plot choices and a whole lot of filler. I'd recommend going in with low expectations and a willingness to embrace the absurdity.
