My Thoughts on The First Evolution
"The First Evolution" is a web novel that definitely sparked my curiosity. With its blend of action, sci-fi, and supernatural elements, I was eager to dive into this world-hopping adventure. After spending some time with it, I have some thoughts.
First Impressions
The initial chapters grabbed my attention. The premise of a young man, Fang Linyan, battling terminal illness and thrust into alternate realities to survive is immediately compelling. The early action sequences are well-written and exciting, drawing you into the story. The blend of familiar fictional worlds with a protagonist struggling against the odds has a certain appeal.
What Works Well
I appreciate the author's world-building. The way they incorporate elements from popular franchises like Harry Potter and Terminator is generally well-executed. The "info dumps," while sometimes extensive, do create a sense of immersion in these worlds. The concept of the "Space," a multiversal entity, adds an intriguing layer of mystery to the overall plot. I also liked that, despite the MC being a support type character, he is still cunning and smart.
Areas of Concern
One of my main issues is the pacing. There are times when the story gets bogged down in excessive detail, which can disrupt the flow and make it hard to stay engaged.
Another thing I noticed is that after the initial chapters, the character development seems to stall. The story becomes heavily focused on the main character, and while he has his moments, he doesn't always feel particularly interesting or relatable.
