"Stranded on a Deserted Island, What to Do?" is a surprisingly captivating read that blends adventure, romance, and a unique power system into a compelling narrative. While it's categorized within the shoujo ai and yuri genres, it offers more than just sweet romance. The survival setting, coupled with the characters' development, kept me hooked from beginning to end.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the premise – two women, from vastly different social standings, forced to survive together on a deserted island. The setup immediately promised both conflict and opportunity for growth. I was eager to see how the author would handle the survival aspects and the development of the central relationship.
What Works Well
The strength of this novel lies in its characters, Hua Mu and Bai Zhen. Hua Mu, a tsundere done right, starts as a spoiled aristocrat but evolves into a tolerant and endearing character. Bai Zhen, with her cold exterior and fiercely loyal interior, is equally compelling. Their chemistry is undeniable, and their individual growth throughout the story is well-paced and believable.
The world-building is another highlight. The author gradually reveals details about the world and its unique magic system, which feels like a blend of Jojo Stand and Nen awakening.
