My Thoughts on Stars Run To Him
"Stars Run To Him" is a completed original web novel that I recently finished and found to be a deeply engaging read. It's tagged as drama, fantasy, romance, and school life, with a heavy dose of yaoi, so I knew going in that I was in for an emotional rollercoaster. And boy, was I right!
First Impressions
The premise is unique: instead of the main character regressing, it's his love interest who travels back in time. This immediately sets it apart from many similar stories and adds a layer of mystery and intrigue. I was hooked from the start, curious to see how Gu Zhongyi would navigate his second chance and how Lin Yunxing would react to his affections. The fact that it's an ABO (Alpha/Beta/Omega) universe adds another layer of complexity, although some readers felt this aspect wasn't always fully integrated.
What Works Well
The characters are undoubtedly the strongest aspect of this novel. Lin Yunxing and Gu Zhongyi are both well-developed, with their own traumas and vulnerabilities. I especially appreciated that Gu Zhongyi, as an alpha, wasn't portrayed as the typical domineering figure. We see his vulnerabilities, his fears, and his unwavering love for Lin Yunxing. Similarly, Lin Yunxing isn't just a damsel in distress; he's strong, resilient, and capable of protecting himself. Their relationship felt like a partnership, a mutual give-and-take where they heal each other's wounds.
The plot is well-paced, with revelations and flashbacks that are strategically placed to keep you guessing. The author does a great job of weaving together the past and present, creating a cohesive narrative that explores themes of healing, redemption, and the importance of family and friendship. Many readers praised the author's ability to create realistic characters with their own motivations and backstories. Even the side characters felt like fully realized individuals, which added depth and richness to the story.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the novel overall, I did notice a few areas that could be improved. Some readers felt that the ending was rushed and that certain plot points were left unresolved. Also, one reviewer felt that the ABO setting didn't add much to the plot.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers found the ending of one of the secondary characters, Liao Yan, to be tragic and unsatisfying. His fate is quite dark, and some felt that it was a cruel way to advance the plot. Others mentioned a missing chapter (83) that created a jarring reading experience.
Final Verdict
Despite its flaws, "Stars Run To Him" is a compelling and heartwarming story that I would recommend to fans of the genre. The unique premise, well-developed characters, and exploration of complex themes make it a worthwhile read. Just be prepared for an emotional journey and maybe keep some tissues handy! I'm giving it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
