My Thoughts on Don’t Try To Corrupt Me
"Don't Try To Corrupt Me" is a wild ride of delinquent points, shameless protagonists, and surprisingly heartwarming moments. I went in expecting a lighthearted comedy, and while it definitely delivered on that front, I found myself unexpectedly invested in the characters and their growth. This novel is a blend of school life, romance, and a touch of found family that kept me hooked from beginning to end.
First Impressions
The premise is undeniably quirky: a system-bound MC, Sheng Yuan, must become a delinquent to survive, targeting the cold and troubled top delinquent, Yu Zuojin. Initially, I was skeptical. However, the humor and the unique dynamic between the MC and the system quickly won me over. It's a story that doesn't take itself too seriously, and that's part of its charm.
What Works Well
The characters are the heart of this novel. Sheng Yuan is a fantastic MC – clever, confident, and shamelessly devoted to his ideals, even when those ideals clash with his delinquent duties. His interactions with the system are hilarious, a constant back-and-forth of witty banter and sarcastic remarks. Yu Zuojin, the ML, is equally compelling. His cold exterior hides a vulnerable soul, and watching him gradually open up and change for the better was deeply satisfying. I especially appreciated that the story doesn't excuse his past behavior but instead acknowledges his need for growth and even professional help. The side characters, from the MC's supportive (and hilarious) father to his loyal "little brothers," add depth and vibrancy to the world. The romance, while perhaps a bit rushed at times, is undeniably sweet. The dynamic between the shameless MC and the even more shameless ML is a joy to watch, and I found myself rooting for them every step of the way. It's a story that balances humor with genuine emotion, creating a truly heartwarming experience.
Areas of Concern
While I thoroughly enjoyed the novel, I did have some minor concerns. The pacing felt uneven at times, with major plot points sometimes resolved too quickly. Also, the ending felt a bit abrupt, and the conflict with the ML's father seemed somewhat forced and unnecessary. It felt out of place with the rest of the novel.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
The following contains potential spoilers regarding the ending of the novel!
Some readers may find the ending arc, where the ML is taken away by his father, beaten, and essentially imprisoned, to be jarring and out of character. There's also the lack of proper revenge against the ML's parents.
Final Verdict
Despite these minor flaws, "Don't Try To Corrupt Me" is a highly enjoyable read. The humor is laugh-out-loud funny, the characters are well-developed and engaging, and the romance is sweet and heartwarming. I'd definitely recommend this novel to anyone looking for a fun, lighthearted, and ultimately uplifting story.
