My Thoughts on Reborn As a System
"Reborn As a System" caught my eye with its unique premise: the protagonist becomes the system, rather than being hosted by one. I dove in hoping for something fresh, and I definitely got it. This novel is a rollercoaster of action, adventure, and romance, with a healthy dose of xianxia thrown in for good measure.
First Impressions
I was immediately drawn in by the fast-paced plot. There's never a dull moment as the MC and his ML traverse various worlds, each with its own distinct flavor. The initial setup is intriguing, and I found myself quickly invested in the leads' journey. I was a little wary of the "yandere" tag, but I was hoping for some character growth to balance it out.
What Works Well
The relationship between Shi Qing (the MC/System) and Qin Mo (the ML/Host) is definitely a highlight. Their dynamic is complex, evolving from pity and dependence to deep love and devotion. I appreciated that the author took the time to develop their bond, making it feel genuine amidst the fantastical settings. Many readers seem to agree that the author has a unique take on the system genre and the character development of both leads is well done. I was captivated by the unique worlds they traveled to, each one distinct and imaginative. The author's creativity shines in crafting these settings and integrating them seamlessly into the overall narrative. The ending was also very satisfying and heartwarming.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the MC's naivete and cuteness, I can see how some might find him frustrating. He can come across as lacking common sense, which can be a point of contention. I think, however, that it is balanced by the ML, who is very intelligent. It's also worth mentioning that some readers found the ending to be somewhat rushed, and that the author has a habit of using too much filler, but it didn't bother me too much.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some reviews mention explicit content and specific plot points in the extra chapters, including details about the ML's possessiveness and the MC's transformations. Proceed with caution if you prefer to avoid spoilers.
Final Verdict
Overall, I found "Reborn As a System" to be a delightful and engaging read. Its unique premise, well-developed characters, and imaginative world-building make it stand out in the crowded QT genre. While the MC's personality might not appeal to everyone, I believe the strengths of the novel far outweigh its weaknesses. I highly recommend this to fans of BL, xianxia, and anyone looking for a fresh take on the system trope.
