My Thoughts on My Omega Lover
"My Omega Lover" promised a sweet and dramatic ride through an ABO universe, and while it delivered on some fronts, other aspects left me wanting more. It's a completed story, so at least I knew I could reach the end, but my journey was a bit bumpy.
First Impressions
I was immediately intrigued by the premise of an established couple facing societal pressures due to their unconventional pairing. The idea of a beta MC head-over-heels for her omega lover, willing to fight for their relationship, sounded incredibly heartwarming and refreshing. I dove in expecting a story brimming with fluff and angst, and the initial chapters did not disappoint.
What Works Well
The devotion between Tang Yao and Song Yuexue is undeniably the heart of this story. I appreciated the focus on their existing bond and the lengths they'd go to for each other. The story shines when exploring the prejudice they face and the sacrifices they make to stay together. I also enjoyed the inclusion of other unconventional pairings, which added depth to the world-building and highlighted the pervasive societal biases. I found myself drawn to the side stories of these couples, even more so than the main plot.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, as the story progressed, I felt some of the initial spark faded. The reasons behind Tang Yao and Song Yuexue's deep love for each other weren't explored as thoroughly as I'd hoped, making their unwavering devotion feel somewhat unearned. I also found that the central conflict, once resolved, led to less compelling storylines, and the introduction of variety show elements felt unnecessary and dragged on.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers might be interested in knowing that the novel features an established couple and deals with sensitive topics such as societal prejudice against certain pairings. The villain is "handled" which some might find unsatisfying as the person who "took care" of the main villain seems to possess more villainous qualities. Be aware of these elements before diving in.
Final Verdict
Overall, "My Omega Lover" is a decent read with moments of genuine sweetness and compelling drama. However, it suffers from pacing issues and a lack of depth in certain areas. While the premise is intriguing and the central relationship is endearing, the execution falls short of its full potential. If you're a fan of yuri romances with a focus on established relationships and don't mind some uneven pacing, you might find something to enjoy here. I'd give it a tentative recommendation, but with the caveat that it's not without its flaws.
