My Thoughts on My Groom Ran Away
First Impressions
My Groom Ran Away had me hooked from the synopsis alone – a runaway groom and a second chance romance? Sign me up! I dove in expecting a lighthearted read, and for the most part, that's what I got. The premise is simple, but the characters drew me in. I will admit that the beginning was a little confusing due to the amount of characters and the history between them.
What Works Well
The female lead, Ruan Zhiyin, is a standout. I loved her attitude and how she always put herself first. She's strong, decisive, and knows her worth, which is refreshing. The male lead, Cheng Yuelin, is equally captivating. His over-the-top narcissism and petty antics provided plenty of laughs. The way he shamelessly flaunts his wife's affections is hilarious and endearing. Their dynamic is what truly makes this story shine.
I appreciate how the novel tackles the characters' emotional baggage. Ruan Zhiyin's past trauma and her struggle to connect with her family felt real and added depth to her character. I also felt sorry for the ex-boyfriend because his intentions were good, but he always put the FL last. The story is fast-paced with no unnecessary drama.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the overall story, I did find some inconsistencies in the male lead's personality. Sometimes he came across as a cold, calculating CEO, and other times he was a lovestruck goofball. This inconsistency made it hard for me to take him seriously at times. I also felt that the ending was a bit rushed. Some side plots were introduced but never fully resolved, leaving me wanting more.

Some readers were critical of Cheng Yuelin's scheming to break up Ruan Zhiyin and her ex. While I understand the concern, I appreciated that he never forced her to do anything she didn't want to do. He was patient and willing to back off if she was truly happy with her ex.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed My Groom Ran Away. It's a sweet and satisfying romance with a strong female lead, a hilarious male lead, and a compelling storyline. Despite some minor flaws, the novel kept me entertained from beginning to end. If you're looking for a lighthearted and heartwarming read, I highly recommend giving this one a try.
