My Thoughts on The Rich Ex-Husband Cries and Begs to Remarry
This novel…whew, it's a rollercoaster, to say the least. It's definitely one that evokes strong feelings, and I can see why it has such a mixed bag of reviews. It’s a wild ride of comedy, drama, romance, and a whole lot of questionable behavior.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the premise of a strong female lead navigating the entertainment industry after a divorce. Ruan Tiantian is undeniably a compelling character, especially when she's delivering sharp comebacks and handling ridiculous situations with a cool head. I appreciated her initial confidence and self-understanding. However, as I delved deeper, I started to see some of the issues that many readers have pointed out.
What Works Well
Ruan Tiantian herself is a major draw. Her stubbornness and refusal to be a pushover are refreshing. The dialogue is often witty and engaging, providing moments of genuine humor amidst the chaos. Also, the fact that she doesn't end up with her ex-husband is a point in its favor. The author creates an interesting world where the MC has to figure out how to be successful based on her own strength and the drama is definitely high. Some found the FL's online fans and their earnest comments to be cute and enjoyable.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, this novel has some significant red flags. The male lead is a major point of contention, and honestly, I struggle to understand how anyone could find his behavior acceptable. We're talking about bullying, humiliation, and even borderline assault. The justification that it's all because he "likes" her doesn't fly with me, and it seems like many others feel the same way. It normalizes abusive behavior, and that's a huge problem. I also struggled with the FL's characterization at times. While she's initially presented as strong and independent, there are moments where she seems to tolerate unacceptable behavior from the male leads. This inconsistency made it difficult to fully root for her.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Okay, let's talk about the ending. The fact that Ruan Tiantian ends up with Qin Yu, who was essentially her high school bully, is… baffling. It feels like a betrayal of the character and a disturbing message about forgiveness and relationships. The ML's actions against the MC in high school were bad, and the fact that the author tries to pass it off as 'loving bullying' doesn't sit right with me at all.
Final Verdict
The Rich Ex-Husband Cries and Begs to Remarry is a problematic novel with a strong female lead but deeply flawed romantic relationships. It has entertaining moments, but the glorification of abusive behavior makes it difficult to recommend. Proceed with caution, and be aware of the triggers and problematic themes before diving in. I'm giving it a 2 out of 5.
