My Thoughts on Lessons on Raising a Partner
"Lessons on Raising a Partner" is a web novel that definitely took me on a wild ride. With its blend of action, adventure, comedy, fantasy, mecha, romance, sci-fi, and supernatural elements, it's clear the author aimed for a unique and expansive story. Did it always succeed? Well, that's where things get interesting.
First Impressions
The premise is undeniably intriguing: an elf-turned-plant being raised by a dragon in a futuristic, war-torn galaxy. I was immediately drawn in by the potential for a heartwarming and quirky love story amidst the backdrop of cosmic conflict. The initial chapters delivered on the "cute and fluffy" aspect, and I found myself chuckling at the early interactions between the MC and ML.
What Works Well
The world-building is a strong point. The author created a universe with diverse races, political intrigue, and advanced technology. The characters, especially the side characters, have unique personalities. The translator did a good job, and it does not have a lot of errors. The author does a good job setting the scene at the start of the novel, and it does not hit you with an information dump.
Areas of Concern
However, as I delved deeper, I encountered some issues that held the story back. The pacing felt inconsistent, with events sometimes jumping abruptly from one scene to another. This lack of cohesion made it difficult to fully immerse myself in the plot and connect with certain character motivations. I also think that the story could benefit from a little bit more focus on the plot, and a little less focus on the romance.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers found the ML's sudden shift to being overly perverted after the MC transformed into a human jarring. Others were uncomfortable with the initial dynamic between the ML and the MC when the MC was still a child.
Final Verdict
Overall, "Lessons on Raising a Partner" is a mixed bag. It has a unique premise, but it does suffer from pacing issues. If you're looking for a light-hearted read with a unique premise and don't mind overlooking some inconsistencies, this might be a worthwhile adventure.
