My Thoughts on Jing Xingzhi’s Daily Life in Ancient Times
"Jing Xingzhi’s Daily Life in Ancient Times" promised a blend of ancient China, transmigration, and a healthy dose of the supernatural, and for the most part, it delivered. It's a completed original novel with an ongoing translation, so I jumped in expecting a fairly complete experience, and I wasn't entirely disappointed.
First Impressions
The premise itself is quite intriguing: Jing Xingzhi, our protagonist, finds himself in ancient times, not alone, but with his fiancé! This immediately set the stage for a unique dynamic, and I was eager to see how their relationship would play out in this unfamiliar setting. I was hoping for a deep dive into the world of Feng Shui, but I quickly realized this was more of a slice-of-life story with a Feng Shui backdrop.
What Works Well
The relationship between Jing Xingzhi and his ML is definitely a highlight. Their interactions are cute and endearing, and I found myself invested in their development as a couple. Many readers have praised the smooth sailing nature of Jing Xingzhi's life, and it's true; this isn't a story filled with constant hardship. He's intelligent, capable, and generally navigates his new world with relative ease, which makes for a relaxing and enjoyable read. I appreciated that the MC, despite being a Feng Shui master, doesn't flaunt his abilities, keeping it mostly between himself and his partner. The MC's journey through the imperial examinations and his rise as a top scholar was also a satisfying plot point. The face-slapping of villains also adds a satisfying touch.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the story, I did find myself wanting more depth in certain areas. The Feng Shui aspect, which initially drew me in, felt somewhat underdeveloped. I understand that the title focuses on Jing Xingzhi's daily life, but I was hoping for a more substantial exploration of his abilities in this area. The focus is overwhelmingly on the MC, and while this is understandable given the title, I would have appreciated more stage time for the ML to develop.
Final Verdict
Overall, "Jing Xingzhi’s Daily Life in Ancient Times" is a charming and enjoyable read, especially if you're looking for a lighthearted slice-of-life story with a sweet romance and a touch of the supernatural. While it may not delve as deeply into the Feng Shui elements as some might hope, the engaging characters and smooth plot make it a worthwhile experience. I'd recommend giving it a try if you're in the mood for a feel-good transmigration story.
