My Thoughts on I Became the Older Brother of the Heroine in an Abusive Novel
This novel had me hooked from the start with its intriguing premise and blend of drama, fantasy, and romance. The story follows our MC as he navigates a second chance at life, determined to protect his family from a tragic fate.
First Impressions
The title is a little misleading, as our MC isn't someone who became the brother, he is the brother. That aside, the initial setup is compelling. Reborn with knowledge of a dark future where his family is destroyed by the ML, the MC sets out to change things. However, he quickly realizes that the ML, a mistreated prince, is more a victim of circumstance than a villain by nature.
What Works Well
I loved the central relationship between the MC and ML. The romance develops slowly and naturally, which I always appreciate. The MC's kindness and the ML's gradual opening up create a heartwarming dynamic. I really enjoyed watching the ML become a better person because of the MC's influence. Their interactions are often described as cute, with the ML being a "tamed wolf" around the MC. The lack of frustrating misunderstandings between them was a major plus for me.
The side characters also added to my enjoyment. The MC's sister is endearing, and the ML's eunuch, Jin Bao, is a scene-stealer. He serves as a hilarious and effective wingman, pushing the main couple together. The story's pacing is also well-managed, keeping me engaged without feeling rushed or dragging on.
