My Thoughts on I’m Pregnant With The Child Of The Traitor General In My Past Life
Alright, buckle up, because "I’m Pregnant With The Child Of The Traitor General In My Past Life" is quite the ride. This novel throws you headfirst into a world of historical drama, fantasy, and a whole lot of angst. I went in expecting a certain level of "dog blood," and let's just say, it delivered.
First Impressions
Initially, I was hooked by the premise. Rebirth stories where characters try to rewrite their destinies are my catnip. The early chapters painted a picture of a tragic prince, reborn and determined to change not only his fate but also the fate of the infamous Traitor General. I quickly became invested in the relationship between the MC and ML.
What Works Well
The author does a fantastic job of building the world and crafting compelling characters. The MC, in particular, resonated with me. He's smart, compassionate, and constantly trying his best despite facing immense prejudice and trauma. The novel’s exploration of his internal struggles, especially his self-loathing stemming from his intersex condition, felt raw and authentic. The ML, even with his flaws, is a complex character shaped by a brutal past. The romance between the two, while turbulent, is ultimately a story of healing and redemption. The plot, while not overly intricate with political machinations, moves along smoothly with enough meat to keep me interested.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Okay, things get complicated. Around the halfway point, the original ML from the past life reincarnates, wiping out the memories of the ML that the MC had come to love. This introduces a whole new level of angst and, for some, questionable content. The reborn ML, shaped by his past trauma, is much harsher and even abusive towards the MC. This is where the "dog blood" really kicks in, and it's not for the faint of heart.
Areas of Concern
The middle portion of the novel, after the ML's reincarnation, is definitely the weakest. The shift in the ML's personality is jarring, and some of his actions are difficult to stomach. While the author attempts to justify his behavior through his traumatic past, it doesn't fully excuse the emotional and physical abuse he inflicts on the MC. The consent becomes…dubious, to say the least. The resolution, while ultimately leading to a happy ending, feels rushed and doesn't fully address the harm caused during this period.
Final Verdict
Despite its flaws, "I’m Pregnant With The Child Of The Traitor General In My Past Life" is a memorable and emotionally charged read. The characters are well-developed, the premise is intriguing, and the exploration of trauma and redemption is compelling. However, be warned: the middle portion is difficult and may not be for everyone. If you're willing to wade through the "dog blood," you'll find a story with depth and heart, but proceed with caution. I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
