My Thoughts on I and My Husband Sleep in a Coffin
"I and My Husband Sleep in a Coffin" is definitely a wild ride, and I came away with mixed, yet ultimately positive, feelings. This novel blends horror, action, and romance with a healthy dose of dark humor, creating something that's both unique and a little bit bonkers.
First Impressions
The premise alone grabbed my attention: a modern-day guy wakes up in a coffin next to a handsome, ancient corpse who's very much alive and very into him. It's a bizarre setup, and the initial chapters lean heavily into the comedy of the situation. I found myself laughing out loud at the protagonist's reactions to his new reality and his increasingly unhinged husband.
What Works Well
The dynamic between the MC and ML is the heart of this story. The male lead is a total yandere, possessive and obsessive, but also deeply devoted. The main character, while initially thrown by the situation, quickly adapts and even embraces the craziness. Their interactions are hilarious, angsty, and surprisingly heartwarming. I particularly enjoyed the culture clashes between the modern MC and the ancient ML, leading to many comedic misunderstandings. The author does a great job of balancing the humor with the darker elements of the story, creating a compelling and entertaining read.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the overall story, I did find some aspects less appealing. The plot can feel a bit rushed at times, with resolutions coming too quickly. Also, some readers might be put off by the colorism and domestic abuse "comedy" scene. While I didn't find it overly offensive, I can understand why others might.
