My Thoughts on Glory
"Glory" is an esports BL novel that completely sucked me in. With a solid 4.6/5 rating from readers, I went in with high expectations, and for the most part, it delivered. It's a blend of action, comedy, romance, and sports, and it manages to juggle these elements surprisingly well.
First Impressions
From the start, I was struck by the vibrant characters and the energetic pace. The dynamic between the leads, Wei Xiao and Lu Feng, is immediately engaging. Wei Xiao's shamelessness and Lu Feng's cool exterior create a compelling contrast that had me hooked. The esports setting is also well-integrated, making it enjoyable even for someone like me who doesn't have much experience with MOBA games.
What Works Well
One of the strongest aspects of "Glory" is its characters. Wei Xiao is a standout – his outgoing personality and trash-talking antics are endlessly entertaining. Lu Feng, with his hidden depths and devotion to Wei Xiao, is equally captivating. The side characters are also well-developed, each with their own distinct personalities and backstories. The team dynamics feel authentic, and I found myself invested in their growth as players and as individuals.
The gameplay descriptions are another highlight. Even though the game "Glory" is fictional, the author does a great job of explaining the mechanics and strategies in a way that's easy to understand. The matches are exciting and suspenseful, and I appreciated that the team doesn't always win, which allows for genuine character development. The romance is sweet and satisfying, and I especially liked that the characters' feelings for each other develop gradually.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed "Glory" overall, there were a few minor issues. Some found the plot repetitive at times, with similar themes of teamwork and communication recurring throughout the story. Others felt that certain plot points, like the MC's family issues, weren't fully resolved. I can see how some readers might find the main couple's dynamic a bit over-the-top at times, with the MC constantly showering the ML with praise.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some reviewers have pointed out specific plot details, such as the couple getting together around chapter 85 and the reveal of the "Team of God's" backstory.
Final Verdict
Despite a few minor flaws, "Glory" is a highly enjoyable read. It's a well-written esports novel with engaging characters, exciting gameplay, and a sweet romance. If you're a fan of shounen ai, sports, or comedy, I highly recommend giving this one a try. It's a fun, lighthearted story that will leave you feeling good, and it's definitely earned a spot on my list of favorite BL novels.
