My Thoughts on Support Is King [Holographic Game]
"Support Is King [Holographic Game]" promised a relaxing dive into the world of e-sports with a comedic twist, and for the most part, it delivered. I went in expecting a lighthearted story, and that's precisely what I got. While it might not be a groundbreaking novel, it certainly provided a pleasant escape.
First Impressions
The initial chapters immediately drew me in with the promise of returning veteran players causing a ruckus in a new VR game. The blend of humor and the nostalgia of old friendships rekindled in a digital world was quite appealing. I was eager to see how the main character, Jiang Shi/PoisonedMilk, and his unique support class would shake up the competitive scene.
What Works Well
The strength of this novel lies in its easygoing nature and focus on character interactions. The guild dynamics, especially within Seven Silver Coins, were a highlight. I appreciated that the guild maintained its chill atmosphere even amidst championship victories. The romance, while slow-paced, felt organic and sweet. I also enjoyed the comedic misunderstandings, particularly the initial misinterpretation of Gentle Fish/Han Yuze's confession. The side characters were undeniably entertaining, with some even shining brighter than the main couple at times. The focus on the support class and the unique builds associated with it was also a refreshing take on the gaming genre.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the relaxed pace, it did contribute to a lack of excitement at times. The plot felt somewhat lacking in high-stakes tension, and the championship matches didn't always feel as impactful as they could have been. I also felt that the world-building could have been more fleshed out, particularly regarding professions other than rune masters. The novel heavily focuses on the MC's profession, which makes the world feel a little small. The romance, while sweet, felt a bit one-sided at times. I also felt like the ML pining for 5 years was glossed over.
Final Verdict
"Support Is King [Holographic Game]" is a fun, lighthearted read perfect for those seeking a relaxing e-sports story with a focus on humor and character interactions. While it may not be groundbreaking or action-packed, it offers a pleasant escape into a world of friendship, camaraderie, and gentle romance. If you're looking for a blood-pumping, high-stakes competition, this might not be for you. However, if you want a chill story about old friends causing chaos in a game, give it a try. I would rate it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
