My Thoughts on Disguised as a Boss in an Escape Game
"Disguised as a Boss in an Escape Game" promised a wild ride of horror, comedy, and romance, and while it delivered on some fronts, it stumbled in others. Overall, I found it to be an enjoyable, albeit flawed, read, perfect for a quick dive into the world of escape games with a uniquely deceptive MC.
First Impressions
Initially, I was hooked by the premise. The idea of an MC who's all talk but surprisingly good at scamming his way through deadly games was hilarious. The "paper tiger" aspect, as some readers described it, was endearing, and I found myself rooting for him as he bluffed his way through each challenge. However, the initial confusion about the "boss" title – whether it referred to a game boss or his player status – did make the opening chapters a bit disorienting.
What Works Well
The novel shines when it leans into its comedic elements. Several instances are fast-paced and funny, and some readers enjoyed the audience CP match of players. The horror aspect, while not intensely terrifying, is well-balanced, making it suitable for readers who enjoy a touch of spookiness without being overwhelmed. The first arc was especially well done with genuine horror elements, however, the second arc was seen as forced.

I also found the second half of the story less engaging, with a shift in focus towards the MC's family that didn't quite land. The humor seemed to dissipate, and the plot became less compelling. The ending felt a bit rushed, which left me a little speechless. Like the rest of the novel, it was a 'that's it??' moment.
