My Thoughts on Zettai ni Derete wa Ikenai Tsundere
This web novel, with its intriguing title, definitely grabbed my attention, and after diving in, I can see why it has garnered a dedicated following. It's a story that manages to be both comforting in its familiarity and engaging in its unique premise.
First Impressions
From the start, Zettai ni Derete wa Ikenai Tsundere felt like a classic teen romance with a supernatural twist. The core concept – a protagonist who's compelled to act against their true feelings – is instantly relatable, tapping into the universal experience of trying to navigate social expectations. The "hiding true identity" aspect adds another layer of intrigue.
What Works Well
The strength of this novel lies in its characters, particularly the main couple. The male lead, with his "twisted" view of reality and underlying compassion, is a compelling figure. The female lead is equally captivating. The story shines in the cute moments of their interactions, as she tries to convey her feelings despite the circumstances. The plot, while perhaps somewhat predictable, keeps you invested, and the ending is undeniably sweet and fitting. The bitter-sweetness of the story is quite addicting. I found the characters believable and 3D. The main characters had some nice character development.
Areas of Concern
While I thoroughly enjoyed the story, I can acknowledge some areas where it could be stronger. Several readers wished for more development of the side characters, such as Gami. Gami is one of the few side-characters with an actual backstory but by the end she's just another Disney channel's teen movie villain.
Final Verdict
Overall, Zettai ni Derete wa Ikenai Tsundere is a worthwhile read, especially if you're a fan of the genre. It's a story that knows what it is and executes it well, delivering a heartwarming and enjoyable experience. I recommend giving it a try!
