My Thoughts on Your Ninth Royal Highness, Please Change Your Clothes
"Your Ninth Royal Highness, Please Change Your Clothes" certainly took me on a journey! Going in, I expected a lighthearted comedy, but I quickly realized there was more to this story than initially met the eye. It's a tale of second chances, love, revenge, and a surprising amount of supernatural elements thrown into the mix.
First Impressions
The title and initial synopsis definitely misled me a bit. I went in expecting fluff, but I was met with a plot that delved into some pretty dark themes. The xuanhuan tag also caught me off guard, but not in a bad way! It added an interesting layer to what I thought was going to be a simple historical danmei.
What Works Well
The romance between the main characters is definitely the highlight. The love interest is absolutely devoted, and I found myself rooting for them despite the obstacles in their path. The author did a great job of showcasing their initial love, how they protected each other, and the regrets that shaped their first lives. I really enjoyed seeing their relationship progress and overcome the misunderstandings of the past. The revenge aspect was also satisfying, particularly against those who wronged the main characters. And while the overall plot felt a bit scattered at times, I was always eager to keep reading.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the story, there were a few things that held it back from being a perfect read for me. I felt the plot jumped around quite a bit, and some plot threads felt unresolved. Also, the main character's indecisiveness early on was frustrating, but I'm glad to see that he pulled through in the end.
