My Thoughts on Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon (WN)
Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon is a novel that completely drew me in with its Cinderella-esque story set in what feels like a Meiji-era fairy tale. It's a story about trauma, healing, and finding love in unexpected places, and I found myself eagerly awaiting updates.
First Impressions
The premise is simple enough: Miyo, mistreated by her family, is sent to marry Kiyoka, a man rumored to be cold and harsh. From the very beginning, I was captivated by Miyo's character. Her quiet strength and the inferiority complex she struggles with make her incredibly relatable, and I immediately wanted to root for her. It’s definitely the kind of story that tugs at your heartstrings right away.
What Works Well
The core of this story lies in the characters and their relationships. Watching Miyo slowly open up and grow into her own person is incredibly rewarding. Kiyoka's transformation from a seemingly cold figure into a supportive and loving partner is equally compelling. Yurie-san is an absolute MVP, playing a crucial role in helping both Miyo and Kiyoka navigate their relationship. The author creates a world where science and technology are beginning to overshadow those with special abilities, adding a unique layer to the narrative. The fantasy elements, while not always front and center, are subtly woven into the story, creating an intriguing backdrop.
Areas of Concern
While I thoroughly enjoyed the first volume, I can see where some might find the plot a bit too straightforward or the resolution of conflicts too quick. The pacing can feel rushed at times, and I, too, wished for more detailed exploration of certain aspects of the world and the characters' backstories. Also, the second volume seems to disappoint some readers. Some feel the main character's internal monologues become repetitive and the plot becomes less engaging.
Final Verdict
Despite some minor pacing issues and mixed opinions on the second volume, Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon is a heartwarming and beautifully written story. It's a tale of overcoming adversity, finding love, and discovering one's worth. If you're looking for a sweet, character-driven story with a touch of fantasy, I highly recommend giving this one a try. Just be prepared to shed a few tears along the way!
