My Thoughts on Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon (LN)

"Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon," or "My Happy Marriage," definitely grabbed my attention. The premise alone – a young woman escaping an abusive family situation through an arranged marriage – is compelling. I dove in eager to see how this story unfolded, and I wasn't disappointed.

First Impressions

Right from the start, I was drawn into Miyo's world. Her past is heartbreaking, and seeing her navigate the initial awkwardness and uncertainty of her new life with Kiyoka, her husband-to-be, was captivating. The story immediately sets up a strong emotional core, making you root for Miyo's happiness.

What Works Well

The character development is a major strength. Miyo's journey from a timid, almost broken young woman to someone slowly finding her strength is incredibly satisfying. Kiyoka, despite his initially aloof demeanor, is also well-written. His gradual softening and the glimpses of his true nature beneath the surface make him a compelling male lead. I especially appreciated how the story doesn't rush their relationship; it allows their bond to develop organically. The hints of a larger supernatural world woven into the narrative add an intriguing layer of mystery that kept me engaged. The setting, reminiscent of ancient times, also adds to the unique atmosphere of the story.

Areas of Concern

While I enjoyed the story overall, the slow-burn romance might not appeal to everyone. Those looking for a fast-paced, action-packed narrative might find the initial chapters a bit slow. The focus is heavily on character development and world-building, which can be a positive for some, but a drawback for others.

Final Verdict

"Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon" is a heartwarming story about finding love and happiness after trauma. If you enjoy character-driven narratives with a touch of the supernatural and a focus on emotional growth, I highly recommend giving it a try. While the pacing might be slower than some prefer, the payoff is well worth the investment. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing where Miyo and Kiyoka's journey takes them.

Synopsis

My sister from a different mother was blessed with beauty, education, psionic ability… She had everything. I on the other hand, other than having the same blood flowing through our veins, was just a servant. My appearance was shabby, I had no education nor did I inherit any psionic abilities. I was an unloved, unwanted daughter. Even the only one who was on my side, my childhood friend, married my half-sister and inherited my father’s business. I was seen as a hindrance and was kicked out of the house to be wedded to another. To a man rumoured to be frightening and ruthless. As that may be, this is a story about a heroine who met a loving husband and went on to lead a blissful life.
