My Thoughts on VRMMO Summoner Hajimemashita
"VRMMO Summoner Hajimemashita" is a lighthearted VRMMORPG tale that follows our protagonist as he dives into a virtual world as a summoner. It's a fluffy adventure with a focus on cute summoned creatures and a protagonist often mistaken for a girl. I went in expecting a fun, easy read, and for the most part, that's what I got.
First Impressions
Initially, I was a bit wary. There were mentions of strong similarities to "Only Sense Online" (OSO), even down to character archetypes and names. This gave me a sense of déjà vu. However, as I progressed, I found that while the initial resemblance is undeniable, the story does start to carve out its own identity. The focus shifts away from crafting (a core element of OSO) and firmly settles on summoning, which provides a different gameplay and narrative direction.
What Works Well
The biggest draw for me is the sheer fluffiness of the story. The summoned beasts are undeniably adorable, and the MC's interactions with them are heartwarming. The game mechanics, while not groundbreaking, are easy to understand, and the VR aspects are used creatively in combat. Many readers praised the humor, and I have to agree; it’s a consistently funny read. I also appreciated the happy-go-lucky attitude of the main character.
Areas of Concern
My main concern revolves around the pacing and depth. Some of the early chapters felt a bit rushed, and the world-building could be more detailed. There were also some inconsistencies noted, such as the sealing progress of monsters fluctuating inconsistently. I feel that some explanations are either too simplistic or, conversely, too convoluted, especially regarding the skill system.
Final Verdict
Despite its initial similarities to "Only Sense Online" and some minor flaws, "VRMMO Summoner Hajimemashita" offers a fun and engaging VRMMORPG experience. If you're looking for a lighthearted story with adorable monsters and a cross-dressing protagonist, this might be right up your alley. Just be prepared for some familiar elements if you're a fan of similar VRMMO stories. I'm cautiously optimistic about where the story will go and eager to see more of the summoner's journey.
