My Thoughts on The Young Lady Only Wants to Cultivate Immortality
First Impressions
"The Young Lady Only Wants to Cultivate Immortality" immediately hooked me with its intriguing title and the promise of a yuri cultivation story. The premise is fairly straightforward: a reincarnated protagonist navigating the complex world of Xianxia while (hopefully) falling in love. I dove in expecting a blend of action, romance, and cultivation, and for the most part, that's what I got.
What Works Well
The dynamic between A'Ling, the protagonist, and Shi Qingqian, the female lead, is undoubtedly the strongest aspect of the novel. Their relationship, fraught with misunderstandings and slow-burn romance, kept me invested. I appreciated the author's focus on character development, particularly how A'Ling grows throughout the story. Though her logic can sometimes be a bit... questionable, I found her journey of self-discovery and cultivation to be ultimately engaging. The side characters also add depth and color to the world, making it feel more alive and vibrant. The plot, while not groundbreaking, provides a solid backdrop for the character interactions and romantic development.
Areas of Concern
A'Ling's intelligence, or lack thereof, is definitely a point of contention. While some readers might find her occasional bouts of absurdity endearing, I can see how others might find it frustrating, especially considering her supposed past life experience. Her progression in power also felt a bit slow at times. I sometimes wished the plot moved at a faster pace, as the focus on misunderstandings occasionally felt repetitive.
Final Verdict
Despite its flaws, "The Young Lady Only Wants to Cultivate Immortality" offers a charming and entertaining Xianxia experience. If you're a fan of yuri romance, slow-burn relationships, and don't mind a protagonist with a few quirks, this might be right up your alley. While it may not be a perfect novel, the engaging characters and the promise of a blossoming romance kept me coming back for more. I'd recommend giving it a try if you're looking for something lighthearted and fun in the Xianxia genre.
