My Thoughts on The Story of a Man Who Vowed to Not Let Any Man Come Between Yuri, Only to Find Himself Caught in Between Them
This title is quite the mouthful, isn't it? I went into this novel expecting a certain type of story, and while it delivered on some aspects, it also surprised me in others. It's definitely a unique premise, and I found myself both entertained and a little conflicted by the end.
First Impressions
The setup is undeniably intriguing: a protagonist dedicated to supporting a yuri couple finds himself unexpectedly drawn into their relationship. The initial chapters are lighthearted and comedic, establishing the characters and their dynamics. I immediately appreciated the MC's genuine desire to see the girls happy, which made his eventual involvement feel somewhat less… exploitative, I guess?
What Works Well
I think the strongest point of this novel is the dynamic between the three main characters. The author does a decent job of portraying the girls' affection for each other, even as their feelings for the protagonist develop. The story is relatively short, which prevents it from dragging on unnecessarily. I also appreciated that the novel is complete, providing a satisfying conclusion (even if it feels a tad rushed). The MC is also genuinely likeable, always trying to be helpful and caring.
Areas of Concern
While the premise is interesting, the execution isn't always perfect. I felt that the "yuri" aspect sometimes took a backseat to the harem elements. It would have been nice to see more explicit displays of affection between the girls, to really solidify their pre-existing relationship. I also felt that the plot could have been more fleshed out; it felt like it ended just as it was starting to explore some interesting themes.
