My Thoughts on The Protagonist Pursues Me Relentlessly
"The Protagonist Pursues Me Relentlessly" promised a fluffy romance with a side of e-sports, and for the most part, it delivered. I went in expecting a lighthearted read, and I wasn't disappointed. It's definitely a novel that caters to those who enjoy sweet, low-angst stories, and I found myself grinning more than once while reading.
First Impressions
The initial chapters were a little confusing. The setup involving transmigration into an RPF (Real Person Fiction) world wasn't immediately clear, and it took me a bit to get my bearings. However, I'm glad I stuck with it, because once the story found its footing, it became quite enjoyable.
What Works Well
The romance between Jiang Mo and Chi Yu is the heart of this novel, and it's undeniably sweet. Jiang Mo's character is endearing – he's innocent and a bit naive, but not stupid. He stands up for himself when it matters, which I appreciated. Chi Yu, the ML, is the possessive and doting type, and while that trope isn't always my favorite, it worked here. He's supportive of Jiang Mo's dreams and gives him space to grow, which made their relationship feel healthier.
The blend of showbiz and e-sports was also surprisingly well-executed. The first half of the novel focuses on a variety show, while the second half delves into Jiang Mo's career as a professional gamer. Even though I don't know much about e-sports, I found the gaming aspects engaging, and I was rooting for Jiang Mo's success. The author did a good job of balancing the romance with the career aspects, so neither felt neglected.
Areas of Concern
The translation quality seems to be a recurring issue for many readers, with some describing it as rough MTL (Machine Translation). I did notice some inconsistencies and occasional errors, which could be distracting. While it didn't completely ruin my enjoyment, it's definitely something to be aware of.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers have expressed concern about the age gap between the MC and ML (19 and 27, respectively) and the ML's possessive tendencies. While the author avoids any non-consensual or dubiously consensual situations, some readers found the ML's actions borderline "grooming." Personally, I didn't find it overly problematic, but it's worth considering if you're sensitive to such themes.
Final Verdict
Despite some minor flaws, "The Protagonist Pursues Me Relentlessly" is a charming and enjoyable novel. If you're looking for a fluffy romance with a cute protagonist, a doting love interest, and a dash of e-sports, this might be right up your alley. Just be prepared for some translation quirks along the way.
