My Thoughts on Vanguard of the Eternal Night
"Vanguard of the Eternal Night" promised a unique blend of action, comedy, fantasy, and romance, so I dove in eager to see if it delivered. After reading, I can definitely see why it has such a dedicated following, but it's not without its quirks.
First Impressions
The initial chapters grabbed my attention immediately. The premise of an ancient assassin reincarnated into a futuristic e-sports world is undeniably intriguing. I was particularly drawn to the fact that the main character, Tyron, is a rare gong MC, a refreshing change from the usual dynamic. His smooth flirting and overall badassery made a strong first impression.
What Works Well
The action sequences are a definite highlight. The author paints vivid pictures of the battles, and Tyron's overwhelming power is undeniably satisfying to watch. Many readers, myself included, enjoyed the romance between Tyron and Victor. Their relationship is fluffy, comedic, and surprisingly straightforward, which is a welcome change from the usual "will they, won't they" trope. The dynamic between the cool, collected Tyron and the adorkable, blushing Victor is undeniably charming. I also appreciated the backstory of the MC, which gave depth to his character.
Areas of Concern
While the OP MC is a major draw for some, it can also be a drawback. The lack of tension in fights and the predictable outcomes made the plot feel a bit bland at times. Some found the e-sports aspect to be somewhat lacking, feeling more like a fantasy gladiator arena than a strategic competition. The world-building also felt a bit underdeveloped, with side characters often feeling like mere props to highlight the MC's awesomeness. The relationship, while cute, does progress quickly, and some found it a bit too simplistic and idealistic.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some reviewers mentioned specific plot points, such as the proposal scene and the MC's constant winning streak. Be mindful of these spoilers if you prefer to go in blind.
Final Verdict
Overall, "Vanguard of the Eternal Night" is an entertaining and enjoyable read, especially if you're looking for a lighthearted story with a strong MC and a sweet romance. While it may not be a deeply complex or thought-provoking novel, it excels at providing a fun and engaging experience. If you don't mind the OPness and are looking for some fluffy BL with plenty of action, this might be right up your alley. I'd recommend giving it a shot and seeing if it clicks with you!
