My Thoughts on The Days I Clear Escape Games Pretending to be an NPC
"The Days I Clear Escape Games Pretending to be an NPC" had me hooked from the start with its unique premise. Apathetic MC? Check. Survival games? Check. Add in some mystery, a dash of romance, and I was ready to dive in. Overall, it's a fun read that's easy to get invested in, especially if you're into the unlimited flow genre.
First Impressions
I was immediately drawn in by the idea of the protagonist, Ren Yifei, blending into escape game scenarios as an NPC. It's such a clever twist, and it offers a refreshing take on the usual survival game tropes. The first few arcs were especially strong, pulling me into the story and making me eager to see what challenges Yifei would face next.
What Works Well
The MC is a definite highlight. Yifei's acting skills are, for the most part, consistently portrayed as god-tier, which I enjoyed. It's fun watching him navigate these dangerous situations by fully committing to his roles. I also appreciated the creativity of the different game instances; each arc felt distinct and had its own interesting storyline. The romance, while slow-burn, is also a plus. The ML, Lin Guanyue (Saman), is persistent and supportive, and their relationship feels genuinely sweet and healthy. The author did a great job of slowly building their connection.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the novel overall, there were a few aspects that could have been stronger. The pacing in some arcs felt a bit off, with certain instances dragging on longer than necessary. Also, while Yifei's acting is usually on point, there were moments where his deductions seemed a bit slow, considering his supposed brilliance. The mystery aspect of the story is not as strong as I hoped.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers might be interested in knowing certain plot points. Yifei's past is revealed to be quite tragic, which explains his detached demeanor. He had a difficult childhood and was forced into acting from a young age. The ML, Saman, also has a dark past, having orchestrated a revenge plot in his world before entering the barren land. There is also a reveal about Yifei's true nature as a being on the same level as the higher universe's god.
Final Verdict
Despite some minor pacing and plot issues, "The Days I Clear Escape Games Pretending to be an NPC" is a really enjoyable read. The unique concept, likeable characters, and intriguing instances make it a standout in the unlimited flow genre. If you're looking for a fun and creative survival game novel with a dash of romance, I'd definitely recommend giving this one a try. I'd rate it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
