My Thoughts on Scum of the Cultivation World
Scum of the Cultivation World certainly lives up to its provocative title, and diving into it was quite the experience. This novel seems to be a love-it-or-hate-it kind of story, sparking some intense reactions from readers, and I can definitely see why.
First Impressions
Right off the bat, the infamous second chapter made its presence known. The protagonist's actions there are undeniably controversial, and I understand why some readers immediately dropped the novel. It's a bold move by the author that sets the tone for a morally ambiguous MC who's willing to do whatever it takes to survive.
What Works Well
Despite the initial shock value, many readers, including myself, found aspects to appreciate. The MC's "scummy" nature, while off-putting to some, offers a refreshing change from the typical righteous protagonist. There's a certain honesty to his selfishness and cunning that makes him compelling, even if he's not always likeable. The story presents a different flavor of xianxia, a more human and dirty perspective that some find engaging. I also appreciate the potential for character growth, even if the MC starts in a morally questionable place.
