My Thoughts on RPG
"RPG" is definitely a unique ride, and I'm still processing everything I've read. It's a blend of genres I didn't expect, and while some aspects are brilliant, others left me scratching my head.
First Impressions
Going in, I was expecting a typical e-sports novel with some game elements. What I got was... different. The story throws you into a futuristic setting with a hypersexual MC who's trying to navigate the world of professional gaming after being cryogenically frozen. It's a lot to take in, and the initial info-dump was a bit overwhelming, but I quickly got hooked. The premise is certainly intriguing, and the smooth translation made it easy to dive right in.
What Works Well
The world-building is fantastic. The game mechanics of "RPG" are intricate and well-thought-out, making the virtual world feel real. I also appreciate the character development, especially the MC. He's not OP, and his struggles feel genuine. His hypersexuality is a core part of his identity, and the author explores it in a way that delves into his trauma and vulnerabilities. Each arc feels like a different genre, keeping things fresh and exciting. The mystery surrounding the MC's past and the overall plot kept me wanting more.
Areas of Concern
The hypersexuality of the MC, while integral, can be off-putting. It felt forced at times, used more for shock value than character development. The plot can get convoluted, especially in certain arcs. Some of the scenarios are bizarre and confusing, making it hard to follow the overall direction of the story. The yandere themes, while appealing to some, might not be for everyone. The obsessive love interests can be frustrating.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers have pointed out disturbing elements in certain arcs, particularly the "princesses" arc, where the MC encounters questionable situations and morally ambiguous choices. These moments can be unsettling and might not align with everyone's taste.
Final Verdict
"RPG" is a mixed bag. It's creative, mysterious, and has well-developed characters. But its disturbing elements and convoluted plot might not be for everyone. If you're looking for something unique and aren't afraid of dark themes, then this might be worth a try. However, be prepared for a wild ride that's not always easy to stomach.
