My Thoughts on Praying for Fate

Praying for Fate is definitely a novel that evokes strong feelings, judging from the range of reactions I've seen. This mpreg story, with its hefty dose of drama, romance, and even tragedy, certainly isn't for the faint of heart.

First Impressions

Going in, I knew this was a story about reincarnation, and that the leads are modern versions of characters from a previous work. The premise intrigued me: a successful CEO and a neurosurgeon, both child prodigies, navigating a complicated relationship. I quickly found myself drawn into the world, even if some aspects felt a little...exaggerated.

What Works Well

What I appreciated most was the focus on the MC's emotional journey. He's plagued by abandonment issues, and his low self-esteem heavily influences his actions. Watching him grapple with these insecurities, and eventually work towards a healthier mindset, was genuinely compelling. The author clearly put effort into portraying the MC's pregnancy, which I found refreshing compared to other mpreg stories that often gloss over the details. The angst is definitely present, but it's not the kind that leaves you feeling completely drained; there's a satisfying resolution that makes the journey worthwhile.

Areas of Concern

However, I also need to address some of the issues I encountered. The biggest problem, in my opinion, is the communication (or lack thereof) between the main characters. Their relationship is plagued by misunderstandings, and it often felt like they were actively avoiding honest conversations. The ML's past actions, particularly his "flings" during their relationship, were a major point of contention for me. While the author attempts to justify it, it left me feeling uneasy and questioning the strength of their bond. I also felt the ML could have been more accountable for his past behavior.

⚠️ Spoiler Warning

Okay, so here's where I'm going to discuss some specifics, so proceed with caution if you want to avoid spoilers! Several readers mentioned the ML's engagement in America and the MC's reaction to it. This plot point, while contributing to the overall angst, felt somewhat contrived and unnecessary.

Final Verdict

Overall, Praying for Fate is a mixed bag. While I appreciated the emotional depth and the focus on character growth, the communication issues and the ML's past actions detracted from my enjoyment. If you're looking for a sentimental mpreg story with a flawed but ultimately redeemable couple, this might be worth a read. However, be prepared for some frustrating moments and a healthy dose of angst. I'd give it a solid 3 out of 5 stars.

Synopsis

BeiTang MinQian: He is a world class super model and is the only son and heir to a prestigious aristocratic family. Because of the pressure as the family’s sole successor, he must face the norms of an expected societal marriage. Su YuanHeng: He is a talented neurosurgeon and was an orphan abandoned at an orphanage. A chance encounter during a surgery led him to fall in love at first sight with the then 14 years old, BeiTang MinQian. But the childhood trauma of being abandoned by his father had cast a dark shadow in his heart that is impossible to be erased. These factors caused their ambiguous relationship to be even more unsettled. Before everything even became clear, an even bigger ‘random incident’ unexpectedly occurred — Facing a relationship that is full of cracks, the ‘fate’ that God bestowed upon them… is it actually deep or shallow? At night, when Su YuanHeng is lying on the big cold bed by himself, the blistering heated air obstructed his breathing. He turned on the air conditioner to high. Wrapped in a thin blanket, he tossed and turned in bed. The days without BeiTang MinQian by his side, he thought that he was already used to it. But when this person came back for just one night, his pathetic body still longed for his embrace. Su YuanHeng slowly closed his eyes and dazily reminisced about his very distant past. His father had once held him in his arms, mumbling tenderly, “Xiao Li, FeiLi…the meaning of this name is ‘never to leave forever.’ You must remember…” “Remember…” “Daddy, I remember, but what about you? You still left me…” Even the person that is by his side, there is going to be that day when he will also leave him …
