My Thoughts on Oukoku e Tsuzuku Michi
"Oukoku e Tsuzuku Michi"… where to even begin with this one? It’s a wild ride, that's for sure. This novel definitely isn't for everyone, but if you're looking for something unapologetically… adult, it might just scratch that itch.
First Impressions
Initially, I was intrigued by the premise: a former slave aiming to become king for the sake of his vampire love. It sounded like a power fantasy with a clear goal. However, I quickly realized that the path to that goal is paved with… well, a lot of other things. Let's just say the protagonist, Aegir, is very proactive in certain aspects of his life.
What Works Well
The action is definitely a strong point. Aegir is an absolute powerhouse, and the battles are often described with a visceral intensity that keeps you engaged. Many readers praised the blend of erotic content with an actual plot, and I can see the appeal. It avoids being just smut by weaving in elements of adventure and army-building. The world-building, while not the primary focus, is decent enough to support the story. I also appreciate that the female characters, despite the harem aspects, are often portrayed as more than just objects of desire, even if they are undeniably drawn to Aegir's… assets.
Areas of Concern
However, the novel also has some significant drawbacks. The sheer volume of sxual content can be overwhelming, and at times, it feels like it overshadows the plot. Some readers might find Aegir's behavior towards women problematic, especially the instances that border on gooming or non-consensual encounters. I can see how some might find the MC unlikeable and the plot repetitive. Also, the lack of depth in the supporting cast, apart from his closest advisors, becomes a problem.

Final Verdict
"Oukoku e Tsuzuku Michi" is a guilty pleasure, plain and simple. It's not high literature, and it has its share of issues. However, if you're looking for a story with plenty of action, unabashed erotica, and a protagonist who embodies "alpha male" energy (for better or worse), you might find it entertaining. Just be prepared to suspend your disbelief and embrace the… unique… sensibilities of this novel. I give it a tentative 3.5/5 – enjoyable in moderation, but definitely not for the faint of heart.
