My Thoughts on Onna Doushi to ka Arienai deshou to Iiharu Onna no ko wo, Hyakunichi kan de Tetteiteki ni Otosu Yuri no Ohanashi
First Impressions
Okay, that title is a mouthful, isn't it? "The Yuri Story of How I'll Absolutely Make a Girl Who Insists That Girls Loving Girls is Impossible Fall for Me in 100 Days." Right off the bat, I was intrigued. A bet, a challenge, a supposed "straight" girl... it felt like a recipe for either disaster or delightful fluff. And, honestly, it kind of ended up being both.
What Works Well
What really grabbed me was the dynamic between Marika and Aya. Marika's a total tsundere, denying her feelings at every turn, and Aya's got this cool, almost teasing demeanor that just eggs her on. It's entertaining watching Marika squirm and try to rationalize her attraction, and the author really leans into that. I also appreciated that the story doesn't shy away from the "smut" tag. The adult scenes are fairly graphic, but they felt like they served a purpose in developing the relationship, not just gratuitous fanservice. It's definitely more than just a simple romance, and I liked that it explored the physical side of their connection.
Areas of Concern
Now, here's where things get a little tricky. The biggest sticking point for me, and for many others, is the issue of consent, especially in the first volume. Some of the interactions between Marika and Aya definitely toe the line, and there are moments where it feels like Aya is pushing Marika's boundaries a little too far. I can see how some readers might interpret this as r*pey or even a form of gay conversion therapy. It's definitely something to be aware of going in, and it might not be for everyone. I also felt that the characters can be a bit basic.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some reviewers have pointed out that Aya's true reasons for the bet are revealed later on, and that the relationship becomes sweeter and more wholesome as the story progresses. However, it's important to acknowledge that the initial interactions can be problematic for some readers.
Final Verdict
Overall, "Onna Doushi to ka Arienai deshou to Iiharu Onna no ko wo, Hyakunichi kan de Tetteiteki ni Otosu Yuri no Ohanashi" is a mixed bag. It's a fluffy, romantic story with a good dose of smut, but it also deals with some potentially triggering themes. If you're looking for a lighthearted yuri read with a bit of an edge, this might be for you. Just be prepared for some questionable consent issues early on. I'd give it a tentative 3.5 out of 5 stars. It's entertaining, but definitely not without its flaws.
