My Thoughts on No Ghosting Allowed
"No Ghosting Allowed" was a delightful surprise, a truly heartwarming read that I thoroughly enjoyed. It's the kind of story that leaves you with a sweet aftertaste, like a perfect cup of hot chocolate on a cold day. I went in expecting a simple romance, and while it is that, it's also so much more.
First Impressions
Initially, I wasn't sure what to expect. The premise of a blind date gone wrong leading to an unexpected romance is a common trope, but this story felt different. The characters, Zhou Qingbo and Pei You, immediately drew me in. Zhou Qingbo, with his seemingly carefree and somewhat lazy attitude, initially came across as unlikeable, while Pei You's earnestness and slight cluelessness were endearing. However, as the story unfolded, I found myself completely invested in their journey.
What Works Well
What truly shines in "No Ghosting Allowed" is the realistic portrayal of a relationship developing between two mature adults. The author masterfully crafts a slow-burn romance, showing the gradual progression from strangers to friends to lovers. I appreciated how they learned to appreciate each other's personalities and even adopted traits that made them better individuals. The characters felt incredibly real, with flaws and strengths that made them relatable and believable. I particularly loved how the story avoids common BL tropes, presenting a relationship built on mutual respect and genuine affection, rather than power imbalances. The slice-of-life aspect is also well-executed, providing a calming and comforting reading experience. The story is relatively low on angst, which was a refreshing change of pace. Seeing both main characters coming from stable family backgrounds with minimal amounts of baggage really worked well. I also liked how the author shows how they fall in love through both extraordinary and ordinary moments. There's humor, sincerity, tension and it all works together beautifully.

Okay, let's talk about that disaster relief arc! I have to admit, I was totally surprised when Zhou Qingbo volunteered at the disaster zone to find Pei You. It was a powerful moment that really solidified my understanding of his feelings and the lengths he was willing to go for the one he loved.
