My Thoughts on My CP Must Be Sweet!
"My CP Must Be Sweet!" promised a fluffy, lighthearted escape, and for the most part, it delivered. This novel follows the sweet romance between Gong Ze and Wen Ge, two actors who are secretly married but publicly perceived as rivals. The premise alone had me intrigued, and I dove in hoping for a delightful read.
First Impressions
Right off the bat, the idea of a hidden relationship between two famous figures is captivating. The initial chapters hinted at a cute dynamic, with the two leads already married and deeply in love. I was instantly drawn in by the promise of constant fluff and "dog food" moments between the couple. The idea of a lighthearted break from angsty stories was definitely appealing.
What Works Well
The core strength of this novel is undoubtedly the sweetness of the central relationship. Gong Ze's doting affection for Wen Ge is a major draw, and many readers, including myself, found themselves smiling throughout. The story focuses on their journey to reveal their relationship to the world, and the interactions between the two are generally portrayed as loving and supportive. For readers seeking a break from heavier plots and dramatic conflicts, this novel offers a comforting and sugary escape. The chemistry between the leads is undeniable, making their interactions all the more enjoyable.
Areas of Concern
While the fluff is a major selling point, it also seems to be a point of contention for some. The "coming out" plotline can feel drawn out and repetitive, leading to a sense of boredom. Some readers may find the constant pampering of Wen Ge to be excessive, and the lack of significant conflict might not appeal to those seeking a more complex narrative. Also, the translation quality seems to be inconsistent, with some readers reporting issues with names and overall clarity.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers expressed dislike for Gong Ze's mother and her treatment of him, feeling it made Wen Ge look like a "white lotus." Additionally, Gong Ze's violent reaction to someone harassing Wen Ge was a point of concern for some.
Final Verdict
"My CP Must Be Sweet!" is a decent read if you're looking for a light, fluffy, and undemanding romance. The sweetness of the central relationship is definitely the highlight. However, be prepared for a potentially slow-paced plot and some translation inconsistencies. If you're seeking a complex narrative or significant conflict, this might not be the novel for you. However, for those craving a sugary escape, this could be a worthwhile read.
