My Thoughts on My Corpse is Bohemian
"My Corpse is Bohemian" promised a unique blend of genres, and after diving in, I can confidently say it delivered a memorable, albeit slightly uneven, experience. The story follows An Bu, a corpse striving to regain her humanity by saving others, and Jian Ningxuan, a man with an abundance of "yang" energy who finds solace in her coldness.
First Impressions
The initial premise hooked me immediately. A zombie girl needing yang energy to feel alive? Yes, please! The early chapters are filled with a delightful mix of fluff, slight horror, adventure, and just a touch of angst. The romance between An Bu and Jian Ningxuan is undeniably sweet and quick-paced, drawing you into their unconventional relationship from the start.
What Works Well
The core strength of this novel lies in its central couple. Their dynamic is truly captivating; the "walking-AC" and "portable heater" finding comfort in each other is both heartwarming and humorous. I found myself completely invested in their journey as they navigated life, saved countless individuals, and slowly fell in love. Many readers have praised the author for creating such lovable and well-developed main characters, and I wholeheartedly agree. An Bu's determination to live life to the fullest despite her undead state is inspiring, and Jian Ningxuan's devotion to her is incredibly touching. I also appreciated the overall optimistic tone of the story, even amidst the occasional darker elements.
Areas of Concern
While I thoroughly enjoyed "My Corpse is Bohemian," I did notice a few areas where it faltered slightly. The side characters, while interesting, often felt underdeveloped and were quickly forgotten, leaving some plot threads dangling. The plot, while engaging, also felt like it was all over the place.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers expressed dissatisfaction with the ending, particularly with the shift in roles between An Bu and Jian Ningxuan regarding the life and death books, and the unexpected addition of a child.
Final Verdict
Despite its minor flaws, "My Corpse is Bohemian" is a charming and heartwarming story that I would recommend to anyone looking for a unique blend of romance, adventure, and supernatural elements. The endearing main characters, coupled with the overall optimistic tone, make it a truly enjoyable read. While the side characters could have been more fleshed out and the plot could have been more organized, the core romance and the MC's drive to live make it a great read.
