My Thoughts on Every Day I Sleep, My Soul Goes Out of My Body
"Every Day I Sleep, My Soul Goes Out of My Body" promised a unique premise, and for the most part, it delivered a delightful and fluffy reading experience that left me smiling. It's a completed original story with an ongoing translation, so I jumped right in, eager for a lighthearted adventure.
First Impressions
The initial hook is undeniably strong: a woman wakes up inhabiting inanimate objects (and later, animals) in a parallel world, all centered around a gloomy, cynical writer. It's quirky, and the promise of seeing how this odd couple would interact definitely piqued my interest. I found myself immediately charmed by the female lead's optimistic and proactive nature.
What Works Well
What truly shines is the dynamic between the main characters. The female lead's infectious positivity slowly chips away at the male lead's jaded exterior, creating a heartwarming and often hilarious relationship. I loved how she dragged him into her antics, like watching movies while possessing a pair of underwear or taking scenic photos as a piece of bacon. Their romance felt natural, with a gradual progression from amusing oddity to genuine affection.
Many will find the female lead's cleverness and adaptability appealing. She takes full advantage of her unique situation, importing rare items from one world to another for profit and even helping to solve crimes. The story maintains a lighthearted tone, avoiding excessive drama and heartbreak, which makes it a perfect palate cleanser. The secondary world elements, how she is able to cross over into the other world, and even the ability to understand animals, were fun plot points that had me wishing I could have the same.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the overall story, I did notice some areas where the novel fell a bit short. The story could've benefited from a slower progression of them crossing over into the other world. Some of the side characters felt underdeveloped and their storylines were abruptly dropped, leaving some loose ends. There's a general sense that the plot armor is quite thick, with problems being resolved a little too conveniently.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some may find the female lead's actions irresponsible, especially when bringing her folded-ear cat into a world where the breed is uncommon or when she leaves the cat alone for extended periods. The male lead's initial neglect of his young relatives might also be off-putting, even if his behavior softens over time.
Final Verdict
Despite these minor flaws, "Every Day I Sleep, My Soul Goes Out of My Body" is a charming and entertaining read. If you're looking for a light, fluffy romance with a unique premise and lovable characters, I recommend giving this novel a try. Just be prepared to suspend your disbelief and enjoy the ride!
