My Thoughts on Long Live Summons!
Long Live Summons! is a web novel that promised a wild ride, and in some ways, it delivered. Jumping into this xuanhuan world, I was greeted with a blend of action, adventure, and a heavy dose of comedy. The initial premise, revolving around summoning and monster companions, felt fresh and exciting, like a blend of classic monster-catching with cultivation elements.
First Impressions
The early chapters definitely grabbed my attention. The MC's antics, though often leaning towards the lewd, had a certain roguish charm that made me chuckle. It felt like the author was aiming for a lighthearted, almost satirical take on the genre, and for a while, it worked. There was a sense of fun and unpredictability that kept me turning the page.
What Works Well
The humor is undoubtedly a strong point, especially in the beginning. The author's ability to weave comedic elements into even high-tension situations is commendable. Also, the world-building, while sometimes inconsistent, presents a fascinating backdrop for the story. The sheer scale of the world, with its layered dimensions and diverse factions, offers a lot of potential for exciting adventures.
Areas of Concern
However, as I delved deeper, some cracks started to appear. The plot felt increasingly convoluted, with the narrative often getting sidetracked by countless side characters and their individual arcs. While some of these characters were interesting, many felt like filler, diluting the main storyline and stretching things out unnecessarily. The cultivation system, which should be a core aspect of the story, felt poorly defined and inconsistent. The MC's power-ups sometimes felt like they came out of nowhere, undermining the sense of progression and immersion. Finally, the MC's perverted tendencies, while initially humorous, became grating over time. The constant objectification of women and the repetitive nature of his interactions with the harem members felt increasingly tiresome and even off-putting.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers have pointed out that the harem dynamic itself becomes problematic. There are claims that all the female characters start to blend together, lacking distinct personalities and motivations.
Final Verdict
Long Live Summons! is a mixed bag. It has moments of genuine brilliance, with its engaging humor and intriguing world-building. However, it's ultimately weighed down by its inconsistent plot, shallow characters, and over-reliance on tired tropes. If you're looking for a lighthearted read with plenty of action and don't mind the problematic elements, you might find something to enjoy here. However, if you're seeking a more nuanced and well-developed story, you might want to look elsewhere.
