Who it's for, and whether it holds up.
"Against the Gods" is exactly what its reputation suggests: a high-volume power fantasy built around a reincarnated MC who spends several thousand chapters being underestimated by progressively more powerful enemies before destroying them. If you know xianxia, you know the loop. The question is whether this one runs it well enough to justify the commitment.
The early stretch does. Yun Che starts as a genuine underdog, the action sequences are well-paced, and the author has real skill at building anticipation before a fight. The world, with its layered realms and defined power system, holds together better than most. There's also a vein of humor that cuts through the more ponderous sections and keeps things from getting too self-serious.
By the midpoint, the formula starts to show wear. The cycle of arrogant villain, disbelieving crowd, overwhelming reversal becomes predictable in a way that diminishes each individual victory. The female characters are individually given personalities, but the harem structure means they cycle in and out without much development. And Yun Che's ruthlessness, initially an interesting edge, tips at points into behavior the narrative seems reluctant to examine honestly, including instances of sexual assault that are treated with more tolerance than they deserve.
At 3.9, this lands in "entertaining if you're in the right mood" territory. It is not a psychologically complex story and does not aim to be. For straight wish-fulfillment action with a competent author behind it, it delivers. Just know what you're signing up for before you start counting chapters.
