My Thoughts on It’s Over! The Major General is Bent!
After diving into "It’s Over! The Major General is Bent!", I can confidently say it's a wild ride through the interstellar world, packed with action, drama, and a surprising amount of heart. It definitely subverted my initial expectations, and I found myself thoroughly invested in the characters and their struggles.
First Impressions
Initially, I thought this would be a lighthearted, fluffy story, perhaps a bit generic. The title definitely suggests a comedic bent, and while humor is present, it's interwoven with much deeper, more complex themes. I was quickly proven wrong, and drawn into a universe where the protagonist, an Earthling lost in space, finds himself under the wing of a powerful Major General.
What Works Well
The character development is a major strength. The MC starts as seemingly cute and somewhat naive, but he proves to be remarkably determined and clear about his feelings, making for a refreshing change from typical tropes. The ML, while possessing the classic "cold and aloof" exterior, shows a compelling vulnerability, especially in his interactions with the MC. Their relationship is a slow burn, filled with angst and genuine emotional growth, which I found very satisfying. I also appreciated the author's ability to create compelling side characters who added depth to the story without overshadowing the main romance. The plot itself, while complex, is engaging. The search for Earth, the political intrigue, and the constant action kept me hooked.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the dramatic elements, I can see how some readers might find the constant conflict and "dog blood" a bit much. There are definitely moments where the plot feels a bit contrived, relying on repeated kidnappings and betrayals to drive the narrative forward. Additionally, the author's tendency to describe the ML's beauty in excessive detail can become repetitive.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers pointed out plot points that might be considered spoilers, such as the MC's initial rejection of the ML's confession and the intense emotional conflict near the end of the story. Be mindful of these if you prefer to go in completely blind. One particularly poignant moment involves the Major General's copy, which elicited strong emotional reactions from readers.
Final Verdict
Despite its flaws, "It’s Over! The Major General is Bent!" is a worthwhile read. The engaging characters, the intricate plot, and the emotional depth make it stand out from other interstellar romances. If you're looking for a story that will make you laugh, cry, and keep you on the edge of your seat, I highly recommend giving this one a try. Just be prepared for a rollercoaster of emotions and a few eye-rolling moments along the way.
