My Thoughts on Infinite Bloodcore
Infinite Bloodcore, the new work from the author of the legendary Reverend Insanity, has certainly been an experience. Diving in, I had to manage my expectations, knowing it wouldn't be a simple repeat of Fang Yuan's ruthless journey. It's its own beast entirely.
First Impressions
Initially, I found myself a bit underwhelmed. The opening chapters felt slow, and I was eager for the story to really grab me. The protagonist, with his amnesia and seemingly constant need for rescuing, didn't immediately inspire confidence. It felt like I was waiting for something big to happen, for the author's signature depth to truly emerge.
What Works Well
However, as I persevered, the world began to open up. The author's attention to detail shines through; the characters have their own motivations and aren't just puppets following the MC around. The story becomes a survival tale with ideals and convictions, which is a change from the utilitarian approach of Reverend Insanity. The world-building is also quite good, with constant new things to discover. This is a character-driven story, and it shows in the amount of effort put into all of the characters. I appreciated the focus on quality over quantity.
Areas of Concern
The pacing may not be for everyone. The initial slow burn can be off-putting, and some might find the protagonist's early struggles frustrating. The amnesia trope, while a common plot device, does feel a bit forced at times, leading to convenient power-ups that resolve tense situations a little too easily.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers might be disappointed in a major plot point revealed in the first book, where the protagonist is just a stand-in for the real Zhen Jin. This can diminish the attachment some readers have to the character.
Final Verdict
Infinite Bloodcore is a novel that requires patience and an open mind. If you're expecting a carbon copy of Reverend Insanity, you'll be disappointed. However, if you're willing to invest the time, you'll find a story with depth, interesting characters, and a unique world to explore. It's a slow burn that eventually ignites, offering a different, yet equally compelling, experience.
