My Thoughts on I Was Pregnant After Divorce
"I Was Pregnant After Divorce" is a completed original web novel with an ongoing translation that I recently dove into, and it definitely left me with some mixed feelings, despite the fairly high overall rating. It's a blend of adult themes, drama, and romance, with a good dose of yaoi thrown in, so buckle up!
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the premise. A transmigration, a forced marriage, a sudden divorce, and then… a baby! The early chapters had me hooked, especially the angst surrounding the MC, Lin Zhixia, as he navigated a difficult situation. I felt for him as he tried to build a family, only to be constantly rejected. However, as I progressed, some of the plot developments felt a bit too convenient and predictable.
What Works Well
What really shines in this novel is the character of Lin Zhixia. Some might see him as weak, but I found his quiet strength and perseverance admirable. He's not a damsel in distress; he's a man doing his best in a tough situation, and I appreciated that. The childcare aspect was also a major plus. It was refreshing to see both the MC and the ML actively involved in raising their son, Lin Keai, instead of pawning him off on a nanny. The author did a good job of portraying the realities of childcare, which made the story feel more grounded. I also really liked how the author addressed the fact that the ML noticed the MC wasn't the same person after transmigration.
Areas of Concern
My biggest issue lies with the ML, Luo Qin. While I understand his initial coldness given the original Lin Zhixia's actions, his sudden infatuation after reconnecting with the MC felt rushed and a little forced. I also found some of the conflict, particularly that caused by Qiao Mei, to be somewhat contrived and driven by reckless behavior. The story felt like it lost some momentum as it went on, and some plot points weren't as well-developed as they could have been.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some reviews mentioned spoilers, so proceed with caution! Apparently, the ML's father kidnaps the MC's son, which leads to the MC agreeing to live with the ML. Also, the second male lead's sister tries to sabotage the MC's life by causing a car accident.
Final Verdict
Overall, "I Was Pregnant After Divorce" is a decent read if you're looking for a sweet, fluffy story with a heartwarming ending. However, be prepared for some frustrating plot points and a ML who takes a while to become truly likeable. I'd give it a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars. It's not perfect, but it's an enjoyable way to spend a few hours, especially if you're a fan of cute kids and devoted love interests.
