Who it's for, and whether it holds up.
My Thoughts on I Am So Kind
I recently finished reading "I Am So Kind," and I have a lot of thoughts swirling around in my head. This xianxia novel with a yuri twist definitely took me for a ride. With a rating of 3.2 out of 5, it's clear that readers have had varying experiences with it, and I can see why. It's a unique blend of genres and themes, and whether or not it clicks with you will likely depend on your preferences.
First Impressions
The title itself is quite ironic, given the brutal nature of the cultivation world depicted. It immediately sets up this interesting tension between the protagonist's inherent kindness and the ruthless environment she's forced to navigate. I was intrigued by the promise of a Xianxia world with a strong yuri element, something that feels relatively rare in the genre. The initial setup definitely pulled me in.
What Works Well
One of the strongest aspects of this novel is the world-building. It’s a dog-eat-dog world, where trust is a luxury and betrayal lurks around every corner. This constant sense of danger and the high stakes involved in every decision kept me engaged. The relationship between Bao Gu and Yu Mi is also a major highlight. I appreciated that their romance wasn’t just fluff. It felt like a genuine connection forged in a crucible of hardship, with both characters willing to sacrifice for each other. Furthermore, the author does a good job in developing characters, and each character has a unique personality that is explored decently well.
Areas of Concern
While the plot moves at a decent pace, the ending felt a bit abrupt. I would have liked to see a more fleshed-out conclusion that tied up all the loose ends more definitively.
Final Verdict
Overall, "I Am So Kind" is a worthwhile read if you're looking for a xianxia novel with a yuri romance that isn't afraid to get dark and gritty. The world-building is compelling, the characters are well-developed, and the central relationship is genuinely heartwarming amidst all the chaos. Just be prepared for a somewhat abrupt ending. I'd say it's a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars from me.
