My Thoughts on I Am Rich
"I Am Rich" promised a light and fluffy romance, and for the most part, it delivered. As a seasoned reader of web novels, I'm always on the lookout for something that can provide a quick escape, and this one certainly had potential.
First Impressions
The premise is fairly straightforward: a cute, stubborn actress chasing after her childhood "brother" next door. I was initially drawn in by the promise of a sweet and uncomplicated story, and the early chapters definitely had that charm. Many readers praised the initial cuteness and found the characters endearing, particularly the female lead (FL) and her relationship with the male lead (ML).
What Works Well
I appreciated the absence of excessive drama and face-slapping, which can often plague showbiz novels. The characters, for the most part, felt relatively sane and the interactions were generally enjoyable. The romance between the FL and ML, while somewhat predictable, offered plenty of fluffy moments that are perfect for a light read. I can see why some readers found it to be a good palate cleanser between heavier novels. The familial love aspect, especially the doting older siblings, added another layer of warmth to the story.
Areas of Concern
However, I did find myself agreeing with some of the criticisms raised by other readers. The FL's character, while initially cute, sometimes felt inconsistent and even frustrating. At times, her actions seemed immature and her motivations unclear. I noticed several reviewers mentioning that her supposed "hard work" in the entertainment industry felt undermined by the ML's and her family's eventual assistance. This created a sense of disconnect and made it difficult to fully root for her success. Also, the ML's initial perception of the FL as a "little sister" did create some initial discomfort.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers expressed concerns about the FL's behavior in certain situations, such as when she pretended to hurt her ankle to gain the ML's attention. These actions felt out of character and detracted from her overall appeal. Others felt that the family's acceptance of her career change happened too quickly, lacking depth and realism.
Final Verdict
Overall, "I Am Rich" is a decent choice if you're looking for a light and fluffy romance novel with minimal angst. However, be prepared for some inconsistencies in character development and a plot that occasionally relies on convenient tropes. While it may not be the most groundbreaking or thought-provoking read, it offers enough cute moments and enjoyable interactions to make it a worthwhile escape for a few hours. I'd give it a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars.
